Translations
Villanova Theatre
800 E. Lancaster Avenue Villanova
Can a budding romance between a British lieutenant and an Irish peasant girl flourish as Empire and colony collide? Tony-winning Irish playwright Brian Friel's Translations takes you on a journey across cultural and political boundaries. Now coming to the Villanova Theatre, The Telegraph calls this hauntingly beautiful work by Friel (Dancing at Lughnasa) "a modern masterpiece in which complex ideas and feelings flow in unison." Liam Neeson appeared in the very first production of Translations in Northern Ireland in 1980. Villanova's production commemorates the 1916 Easter Rising and the passing of Friel, who was often referred to as the Irish Chekhov, this past October.
